Mr. Bentley Allen, Higham Ferrers

A founder member and for many years treasurer of the Rushden and Higham Ferrers Angling Association, Mr. Bentley Allen, of 29, Grove-street, Higham Ferrers, died at Wellingborough on February 23 at the age of 70.

Mr. Allen had been in poor health since Christmas, and seriously ill for a fortnight. A native of Higham Ferrers, he was for thirty years manager for Sanders and Co., curriers, retiring about 15 years ago. He was the senior trustee of the Loyal Earl Fitzwilliam Lodge of Oddfellows up to the time of his death.

Relatives bereaved are Mrs. E. Knight, Rushden (daughter), Mrs. M Hales (sister), Mr. B. Allen, Barwell (brother), and six stepchildren, Mr George Darlow, Northampton, Mr Fred Darlow, Mrs. H. Lewis, Mrs. M Austin, Mrs. H. Odell (Higham Ferrers) and Mrs. Whiteman (Australia).

The funeral took place at Higham Ferrers on Monday, the Rev. H. G. Reynolds, Methodist minister, conducting a service at the house.

Family mourners were: Mrs. E Knight and Mr. B. Allen (daughter and brother), Mr. and Mrs. Hales (brother-in-law and sister), Mr. G. Darlow (stepson) and Mrs. Darlow, Mr. H. Lewis (stepson) and Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. M. Austin (stepdaughter) and Mr. Austin, Mrs. H. Odell (stepdaughter) and Mr. Odell, Ald. A. C. Allen and Mrs. B. Allen (nephew and sister-in-law), Miss Elsie Hales and Miss Elsie Morson (niece and cousin).

Other mourners included Trustees Edward Parker, P.G., and John Bates, P.G., of the Earl Fitzwilliam Lodge. with Bros. H. E. Newell (secretary), W. B. Belcher, P.G., C. W. Smith. P.G., G. W. Marriott, P.G., D. G. Crick, N.G., and S. C. Miles, G.M, Coun. A. C. A. Colton (vice-president) and Mr Joe Eagle (treasurer) represented the Angling Association.
