The first two books are a combined record of Gamekeepers licences and Meeting House Certificates issued, each being listed from one end of the book. The pages are numbered from one for both records. There is a third book of Meeting House Certificates granted, 4 & 5 are rolls of loose papers, (each paper detailing one particular application) both bundles are catalogued to “have a list of those which do not appear to have been registered” (not found), 6 is a note that six Certificates are noted in the Quarter Sessions Minute book for 1689, 7 is the Annual Returns to the Bishop of Peterborough, 8 is a printed return with statistics and 9 is a Return made to the Registrar General. 1-7 are combined for this index. In Misc. QS.292/4/76 there are two small scraps from which the ink has almost disappeared and the details were undeciphered.
This index of the Meeting Houses, for non-conformist services, gives the name of the person seeking permission to hold the services (usually in part of his property) and the village. Volume 3 starting in 1789 lists several people applying for permission to hold services in a particular property, name of the occupier, if it is a new building, sometimes giving the street and some occupations and status are given. Forenames have been expanded if contracted, and modernised as are Place names but all Surnames are spelt as in the documents. For the early entries the Regnal year is given in the book but for this index the Year is modernised and upgraded for Jan-Mar. To help locate the entry in the books the page & volume numbers are added. Several pages are blank. Volume 2 has a place name index at the end of the entries.
