RAUNDS - FIRE ALARMSThe last two days there have been 3 alarms of fire in the village. On Tuesday the chimney of an old thatched house in the upper part of the village occupied by W. Wheatley, caught fire and on Wednesday the same thing occurred at an old thatched house in the lower part of the village occupied by a woman named Sparks. Fortunately in both cases the fire was extinguished before it got hold of the thatch or any serious damage was done. Early on Wednesday morning a wash-house and coal-house in Coleman-street belonging to Mr. John Martin was discovered to be on fire. It appears they had been washing in the wash-house the day before and the copper fire either got through the brick partition dividing the wash-house from the coal-house, or heated it so as to set the coal stored there all on fire. A lot of the coal was consumed and considerable damage done to both places Mr. Martin is, however, we understand insured.
