Wellington Tannery - Raunds

Rushden Echo & Argus, 27th June 1947

Firms’ Outing—Seventy employees of Messrs Strong and Fisher, Rushden, and Wellington Tannery, Raunds, went on an outing to Skegness. They travelled in five coaches and all expenses were covered by the firms. The trip was organised by the directors.

Axed Tannery to be put up for sale

The future of a Strong and Fisher tannery building is still to be sorted out.

The Wellington Tannery in Raunds will shortly close with 50 job losses and more staff cuts are being made at the company’s headquarters in Rushden.

Director Peter Morgan said: “They will probably be there until February when our operations are finally sorted out. A small unit in Raunds will remain for leather de-greasing and sorting. But we have no firm plans for the main tannery. Ultimately it will be sold.”

The company is the largest hide and skin trader in Britain.
