Snowunda, Ltd., Raunds

Rushden Echo & Argus, 6th February 1948, transcribed by Kay Collins

Raunds To Have Soap Industry
Soap manufacture is to be a new industry for Raunds. It will be housed at the Old Gas Works, where extensive repairs and improvements are being taken in hand with a view to opening-up as soon as possible.

The company responsible for the venture is Snowunda, Ltd., late of Stockton-on-Tees and now an associated Company of Kelro Chemical Co., Ltd., Rushden and Irchester. The property—purchased through Mr. John L. Wilson. F.A.I.—offers 24,000 square feet of working space.

Patent processes will be used—in conjunction with specially designed plant— which have been extensively employed in many foreign countries.

At the commencement of operations, it is proposed to devote attention to the production of pure household soaps. As further machinery and plant become available, a development of the business will be the production of fine soaps, toilet soaps, soap powders and flakes.

Other Products
Apart from soaps, several other products, which have already passed through the laboratory stage, will be marketed as opportunity serves.

The parent concern, Kelro Chemical Co., are already actively engaged in the drive for exports, but as raw materials become more readily available, it is hoped that the Raunds factory may provide an ever-growing percentage of finished products for the home trade.
