Footwear firm now automated

A HUNDRED and twenty employees of Owen Smith (Raunds) Ltd, Stanwick, manufacturers of sports footwear, returned to work on Tuesday to find a complete re-organisation of manufacturing departments and two brand new automatic machines in the closing and making departments.

An Eatough-Satra closing room transporter and a British United Shoe Machinery duorail automatic transporter for heat setting and cement drying have been installed.

It is expected that production at the factory will be increased by a thousand pairs per week, bringing the total up to 4,500 pairs.

The same number of people as before will be employed in the factory and they will have better working conditions.
