Irchester - A Band Abandoned—At the meeting of the Co-operative Society on Tuesday Mr. S. Parbery stated that the brass band of the society had cost the society £200 in five years, whilst the income from the band to the society was nil. The question was discussed at length. There were only nine instruments in use, while seven more were lying idle. The society were thus paying for the teaching of nine players just as much as it would cost had there been a complete band. It was decided to call in the instruments, and close what has been to the society an expensive item.

Horse Lost - Peculiar Accident at Irchester
On Saturday, while Mr. F. Sharp, of Irchester, was bringing girders from the station, for use in the Co-operative Society’s new stores, one of the girders slipped on to the hindquarters of the horse in the shafts, which in consequence began to kick. This caused the animal to fall and break its leg, so that the horse (a valuable one) had to be shot. The fore-horse broke its chains and ran home to the stables.

The children members of the Co-operative Society were on Saturday entertained to tea in the Co-operative Hall and Wesleyan Schoolroom. After tea the children, headed by Wollaston Town Band, proceeded to Mr. Frank Parsons’s field in Wollaston-road for sports. A Punch and Judy show amused the younger ones. The band played for the dancing.
