Rushden Echo, 20th June 1919, transcribed by Kay Collins
The Stanwick section of the Rushden branch of the National Federation of Discharged and Demobilised Sailors and Soldiers, by permission of the Rector, held a garden party in the Rectory Grounds on Saturday, many soldiers and sailors, their wives and sweethearts, attending. A meeting was held, the Rev. H. W. Richards taking the chair. The Rev. Ion Carroll, of Rushden, gave a forceful address, his points being well taken up by his audience. A hearty vote of thanks was given to him, proposed by Mr. H. Lovell, and seconded by Mr. J. J. Peck. Mr. F. Elmer, of Rushden (secretary) thanked the Rector for the use of the grounds and for taking the chair. The Rector expressed the pleasure it gave Mrs. Richards and himself at seeing so many present. A band, under the leadership of Mr. Roberts, of Rushden, played for dancing. Mrs. F. Nichols and Mrs. R. Allen had charge of the "pound stall," and Mrs. J. Hicks was responsible for the refreshments. The capital sum of £7 was realised by the effort.
