New Organ - Opening Ceremony at Stanwick Union Chapel

The opening of the new organ at the Union Chapel, Stanwick, on Tuesday evening roused considerable interest in the village.

Quite a musical evening was given by a visit of the choir from the Park-road Baptist Chapel, Rushden, with Mr. Max Stringer as conductor and Mr. J. L. Clipson, A.R.C.O. as organist.

The new instrument has been provided at a cost of £40, which was fully paid, the money being raised by special efforts by the members and friends of the chapel, in the form of socials, musical evenings, etc.

Mr. J. Farey, who has in the past had such a long and honoured connection with the Rushden Choir was the genial chairman on Tuesday evening, and infused some extra energy and enthusiasm into the meeting. A high-class programme was most efficiently rendered, showing great ability on the part of the members, both individually and collectively.

A collection was made, and realised £2 2s. 2½d., but no funds being required for the instrument, this was devoted to the fund for renovating the schoolroom.

The instrument is a Karn organ, supplied by the Sunday School Union. Mr. S. Pettit, Mr. S. Clark, Mrs. A. Clark, and Miss B. Shelton were the committee who so admirably carried out all the arrangements.

A public tea was also held, and a large number attended, the following ladies being the committee and presiding at the tea tables:— Mesdames Willmott, Atkins, A. Clark, Biggins, Welford, and J. Freeman, Miss B Shelton and Miss B. Willmott.
