RescueYesterday afternoon at Little Irchester a boy, Ernest Ingram, aged eight, of Little Irchester, fell into the river near the Mill. Mr Wallis, who keeps the Crown and Anchor Inn, heard a shout that someone was in the river. Before he could get a boat a man named Goodman, of Wellingborough, employed at J B Whitworth’s mill, rushed from the bridge, and rescued the boy. The lad was brought to the bank, revived by artificial respiration, and was then taken home to his parents.

Thanks to a number of kindly disposed persons, a sum of £144 has been raised for the purchase of a tricycle for Mr. W. Hart, of Little Irchetser, who met with an accident in the course of his work at the ironstone pits in 1940.
To raise this splendid amount a committee was formed, a subscription list was helped by means of a dance, concert, whist drive, social and auction sale, competitions, etc. Mr. S. Wilford (Messrs. H. Wilford, auctioneers) generously assisted the fund by his services and in other ways.
