History buffs and photography fans are in for a treat at an exhibition that coincides with the launch of a new book.

Irchester Historical Society is staging a photo exhibition this weekend featuring village people, places and events dating back to the mid-1800s.

Society chairman Jon-Paul Carr said: "It is a historical snapshop of village life and features more than 1,000 images.

The exhibition takes place tomorrow and Sunday at Irchester Primary School between 11am and 4pm.

The society is also launching a book entitled The Best Days of Your Life? The History of Irchester Schools.

Mr Carr said: "It is a comprehensive record of school life which draws on a number of sources. The book contains over 200 images."

The 250-page book is the work of about ten members of the society and has taken six years to compile.

It costs £20 and one thousand copies have been printed.
