Wellingborough & Kettering News 19/07/1889, transcribed by Peter Brown
HEAVY FLOODSOn Friday morning 12 inst., rain descended in torrents, and the streets were speedily converted into rivers and watercourses, several houses at the south end of the town were flooded. But the rush of water on Friday was nothing compared with Saturday afternoon, when, for an hour and a half, the rain came down even more vigorously. The main street was eight to ten inches deep in water, and again the furniture was floating in the houses near where the toll gates used to stand, and the oldest person living never remembered seeing so much water in the streets. The sewers burst and there was quite a deluge.
