Women Form a Guild
Higham Ferrers is the latest place in the county to form a Townswomen's Guild. Thirty-six joined at Monday's inaugural meeting at the Council Schools.

The Mayor (Coun. F. G. Felce), who presided, spoke of the aims and objects of the Guild. Afterwards, Mrs M. V. Underhill, Staff Organiser from the National Union, dealt with the wide field of activities covered by the Guilds.

She said it was felt that the Guild could offer something to women of all ages and interests. After a Guild had been formed small subcommittees organised groups for handicrafts, dressmaking, cookery, millinery, embroidery and household repairs—whatever members were interested in. Drama and music groups had proved popular and a civic group was one of the favourites—it took an interest in the life of the town, and a certain number of members attended the monthly Council meetings.

It was proposed by Mrs. G. H. Crapper and seconded by Mrs. S. Harris that a Townswomen's Guild should be formed in Higham Ferrers. This was unanimously carried and the meetings fixed for the first Monday in each month. Mrs. H. B. Patenall thanked the Mayor for presiding.
