AMBULANCE:– Station Road, Rushden.  Tel. Northampton 32423 or 999 in emergency.

AREA:– 1,945 acres.

BANKS:– Midland and National Westminster Banks are adjacent to the Market Square.  Other banks have branches at Rushden.

CHURCHES AND CHAPELS:– St Mary’s Parish Church as well as Methodist and open Brethren Chapels.  Roman Catholic Church close by in Rushden.

EARLY CLOSING DAY:– Thursday.

EDUCATION:– The Northamptonshire County Council Education Committee maintain Infant and Junior Schools in the Town.  At nearby Rushden there are Comprehensive Schools for Boys and Girls respectively and also a College of Further Education specialising in Boot and Shoe Craft and Manufacture.  Public Schools are available within a reasonable distance at Wellingborough, Kimbolton, Oundle and Bedford.

ELECTRICITY:– Supplied by the East Midlands Electricity Board.  District Office at Rockingham Road, Kettering (Tel. Kettering 82501).Local Showroom at High Street, Rushden.

EMPLOYMENT:– Employment Office and Unemployment Benefit Office at Rectory Road, Rushden (Tel. Rushden 57415).

ENTERTAINMENT:– Numerous clubs and organisations cater for all age groups, interests, hobbies and sporting activities.  The town also has two working-men’s clubs.  The nearest cinema is the Ritz at Rushden, which is also used for performances by local dramatic and operatic groups.  A number of concerts are arranged annually by ‘Music at Higham’ and an Amenities Society looks after the town’s history and traditions.

POPULATION:– Estimated at 5,050 (May 1976).

POST OFFICES:– Wharf Road and North End.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:– Bus services are operated by the United Counties Omnibus Co Ltd, and there is a frequent service to Kettering and Northampton via Wellingborough.  A coach service to London operates from Rushden.  Timetable enquiries Tel. Northampton 36681.  Rail services are available from Wellingborough and Northampton (Tel. Wellingborough 222417 and Northampton 37273).

SPORTS:–Bowls, Cricket, Football and Tennis are catered for at the Sports Ground.  Three football teams play in the local league.
At Rushden there is an outdoor heated swimming pool.
The Rushden and District Golf Club has an attractive 9 hole course just over a mile from the town centre on the Kimbolton (A45) Road. (Tel. Rushden 2581).  Good angling in the rivers Nene and Ouse and also at nearby Thrapston and Grafham Water, where sailing also takes place.
A point-to-point meeting is held annually by the Oakley Hunt.

WATER:– Hard.  Provided by the Northampton Water Division of the Anglian Water Authority (Tel. Northampton 21321).

YOUTH EMPLOYMENT:– Careers Office is at Church Street, Wellingborough (Tel. Wellingborough 222626).
