Joseph Taylor of Bozeat

Joseph Taylor married Ann in about 1696, perhaps at Bozeat but the parish registers were lost in a fire so we cannot be certain. He was a weaver by trade and their son William was baptised on the 11th December 1698 at Cardington in Bedfordshire. The family had left Bozeat on 2nd February 1699 when the Churchwardens wrote:-

To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poore of the Parish of Cardington in the County of Bedford.

Wee whose names are hereunto subscribed being the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poore of the Parish of Bozyate in the County of North'ton, doe hereby own and acknowledge Joseph Tayler weaver with Ann Tayler his wife and William Tayler his son - to be Inhabitants of our said Parish of Bozyate though Intending to dwell at Cardington aforesaid. Note: A duplicate would be kept at Bozeat but lost in the 1728 fire.

At Cardington - William was baptised on 11th December 1698, another son Joseph on 13th May 1700, daughters Mary on 28th February 1701/2 and Mercy on 27th October 1706. Joseph senior was buried on 28th January 1705/6 leaving Ann with 4 young children. Perhaps the family was removed back to Bozeat, but no removal order has been found. Perhaps Ann remarried but nothing is more is known of her.

At Bozeat - William Taylor was married to Elizabeth Dunkly, (daughter of Thomas and his second wife Grace, and baptised at Grendon), when they were described as "both of Bozeat", on 30th December 1720. They had seven children at Bozeat and William was a victualler. Their two eldest sons were lacemakers.
