Wymington Newsclips 1921

Rushden Echo, 15th July 1921, transcribed by Kay Collins

WYMINGTON
HARVEST is in full swing at Wymington, several fields of oats having been cut this week. They are in good condition, though the straw is somewhat shorter than in former years.

FIRE—On Tuesday the Rushden Fire Brigade received a call to a fire at Wymington. The call was received at 4. 56 p.m. The Brigade made a smart response and in eight minutes, were on the way with No. 1 steamer and a full brigade under Captain R. F. Knight and second Officer Packwood. Upon arrival at the scene of the fire, it was found that a large thick hedge and crops on part of a field and allotments, belonging to Mr. W. W. Smith, were well alight. The steamer was set by a hydrant out-side the Vicarage, and a steady stream of water was pumped on to the fire for about two hours. The Brigade left about 7.45 p.m. with all safe.

A Policeman has now been stationed at Wymington in the person of PC Greenwood, and has commenced his duties in the village.

Fire—The hedge adjoining the allotments between Rushden and Wymington again burst into flame on Sunday night, but the fire was extinguished by a number of workers without the brigade being called. It is thought that a passer-by had dropped a lighted match among the dried up vegetation.
