Newton Bromshold Gifts
Land for Churchyard Extension

On Saturday the Rector of Newton Bromshold, the Rev T. Crowther Green, B.A., announced to the congregation at St. Peter’s Church that he had received from Messrs. Simpson and Mason, of Higham Ferrers and Rushden, the deed of conveyance in connection with the piece of land generously given by Mr. J. Harris for the extension of the churchyard.

Enclosed with the deed was a letter which announced that the surveyor, Mr. J. L. Wilson, of Rushden, had been kind enough to carry out his work of surveying and preparing the plan free of charge, and Messrs. Simpson and Mason had carried out the legal part of the work also without charge.

The Rector said he felt sure that all the members of St. Peter’s appreciated these gifts far more than could be expressed in words. For many years the limited accommodation in the church yard had caused very grave concern and now, by the kindness of those benefactors, the anxiety had been removed.

Newton  Bromshold Churchyard
Extension  Dedicated By Bishop of Peterborough

Land given by Mr. James Harris, of Higham Ferrers, for the extension of the Newton Bromshold (churchyard was consecrated on Sunday by the Bishop of Peterborough (Dr. Claude Blagden).

Evensong was taken in the church by the Rector (Rev. C. Ayton. Williams), the Bishop reading the lessons. There was then a procession to the churchyard extension, and the churchwardens, Messrs. N. M. King and P. W. Bletsoe, followed by the Bishop, clergy, choir and congregation perambulated the plot.

The petition for consecration was presented by the Rector, and after the Bishop's impressive words the sentence of consecration was read by the Rev. W. P. M. Hamerton, Rector of Stanwick, and duly signed by the Bishop, the signature being attested by the Revs. W. P. M. Hamerton and C. A. Williams.

When the procession had returned to the church a helpful and inspiring address was given by the Bishop.  An important event in the history of the Newton Bromshold church, the service was very well attended. Mr. Harry Gadsden played the organ, and the hymns were "O God our help in ages past," "There is a blessed home," "Ten thousand times ten thousand" and "For all the saints."
