Henry Lamb - Will 1727

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I Henry LAMB of Newton Bromshold in the County of Northton Gentleman being in health and of sound and disposing mind and memory thanks be given Almighty God for the same and considering the uncertainty of this life and that it is appointed for all men Once to dye and being minded to Settle and dispose of the Worldly Estate that it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me do therefore make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form But I do in most humble wise recommend my Soul to God that gave it me hopeing for Pardon and Remission of all my Sins and Mercy and everlasting Salvation through the sole and only meritts and mediation of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and redeemer I give and bequeath unto Mr. Robert LAMB and Mr. William LAMB my two Nephews and the two Sons of my Brother Robert LAMB deceased the Sume of twenty pounds apiece of good and lawful money of Great Britain to buy them Mourning I do give and bequeath unto my dear and loving Wife and unto my dear and only Son Alexander LAMB all and Singular my household Goods and all my plate of what sort and kind soever to be equally divided between them share and share alike I do also give grant and devise unto my Son the said Alexander LAMB and to his Heirs and Assignes for ever All and Singular my Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever with their and every of their rights members and Appurtenances and every Part and Parcell thereof Situate lyeing and being within the Severall Parishes fields Meadows bounds precincts and territories of Newton Bromshold aforesaid Higham Ferrers and Woolastone in the said County of Northton and of Yelding in the County of Bedford But if my said Son shall happen to depart this life without any Heirs of his Body and before he shall Attain his Age of One and twenty Years then and in such Case I do hereby give Grant and devise all and Singular my said Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever in Newton Bromshold Higham Ferrers Woolastone and Yeilden aforesaid unto my Daughter now the Wife of John ATKINSON of Potton in the said County of Bedford Gentleman to whom with her I have already given a portion upon the marriage and to her Heirs and Assignes for ever but my Will is Notwithstanding that if my Son the said Alexander LAMB and my said Daughter shall both happen to dye and depart this Life before the said Alexander LAMB shall have attained his Age of One and twenty Years then and in such Case I do hereby give grant and devise All and Singular my said Messuages Cottages Closes Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever in Newton Bromshold Higham Ferrers Woolastone and Yeilden aforesaid unto my five Granddaughters namely Susanna Elizabeth Mary and Ann ATKINSON and their Heirs for ever in Copartnership and I do hereby further give and bequeath unto my said Loving Wife over and above her Joynture or what was Settled upon her upon our Intermarriage the Annunity or Sume of ten Pounds per Annum of good and lawfull money of Great Britain for and during the term of her natural life to be paid her by two halfe Yearly equall Payments at the Feasts of St Thomas the Apostle and of St John the Baptist the first Payment thereof to begin and to be made at such of the said Feasts as shall first happen next after my decease And my will is that my said Wife shall have dureing the term of her natural life the use of the four best Roomes of the House wherein I now dwell in Newton Bromshold aforesaid without the least Molestation trouble hinderance or denyall of by or from my said Son Daughter or Grandchildren their Heirs or Assignes or any other person or persons whatsoever to live and reside if she thinks fitt and I also give and bequeath unto my said Daughter Mary ATKINSON the Annuity or Yearly Sume of thirty Pounds of good and lawfull money of great Britain for and dureing the time and term of her natural life to be paid by two even and equall payments in the Year on the two usual feasts or days of payment in the Year viz. of St Thomas the Apostle and St John the Baptist the first payment thereof to begin and to be made on the first of the said Feasts which shall happen next after my decease I do give and bequeath unto my five Grandaughters namely Susannah Elizabeth Mary and ATKINSON the Sume of five hundred Pounds of like good and lawfull money of Great Britain that is to say each of them One Hundred Pounds to be paid to them at their respective Ages of Eighteen Years or days of Marriage which shall first happen but if any of my said five Grandaughters shall dye before the Age of Eighteen Years or before their Marriage then the Legacy or Legacys of her or them so dyeing shall go to the Survivors or Survivor of them But if they shall all happen to dye before the said Age of Eighteen or days of Marriage then the said Sume of five Hundred Pounds shall go to my Executor hereafter named and I do hereby Charge And Subject all my Estate Lands Tenements and Hereditaments And also all my Personal Estate with the payment of all Annuitys and Legacies by me given and bequeathed in and by this my last Will and Testament as aforesaid I do also give and bequeath unto the poor of the parish of Newton Bromshold aforesaid the Sume of three Pounds of Good and lawfull money of Great Britain to be paid to them within three days next after my decease I give One Guinea unto my Good friend and Neighbour Mr Mathew Wylde All the rest residue and remainder of my moneys Goods Chattells Rights Credits and Personal Estate whatsoever I give and bequeath unto my said Son Alexander LAMB whom I make name and appoint the full and Sole Executor of this my last Will & Testament he paying and discharging all my Just Debts and also the Annuitys and Legacies hereinbefore mentioned and I desire that my Executor will take care to bury me decently and in such manner as my Executor shall think most Suitable to my degree and Condition And lastly I do hereby revoke disannul renounce and make void all and every or any former or other Will or Wills by me at any time heretofore made and I do hereby declare this to be my last Will and Tetsament and no other IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and Seal being duely Attested this Second day of November in the thirteenth Year of the Reign of our Soveraign Lord George by the Grace of God of Great Brittain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith &cAnno Domi One thousand Seven hundred and twenty Six

Henry LAMB Signed Sealed Published and declared by the Testator to be his last Will and Testament in our presence who in his presence and at his request have attested the same and hereunder Subscribed our Names as Witnesses Wm LAMBE James AGUTTER (page torn - last witness’s name is unreadable)

Probate granted 10 May 1727

On the outside some notes read:

Mr Henry Lambs will, granfather to Mrs Susanna Borrow wife to A. Borrow of Warrington. Mr Alexander Lambs will inclosed  uncle to the above Mrs Borrow.

Mr A Borrow and Mrs Trott his wife were mar. at Wrestlingworth in Bedfordshire by Mr Sam Hicks Rector of Wrestlingworth.
