Mr Walter Bates

Rushden Echo, 30th July 1920

An eviction took place yesterday on the Court Estate, the furniture of Mr Walter Bates being removed from his residence under a magistrates’ order obtained by Mr. Bettles, of Souldrop, who had bought the property from Mr. Hawkins. Inspector Hobel watched the proceedings. Mr. Bates, who served 4½ years in the war, and was the incapacitated through shell shock, had built up a nice little grocery business. As he had been unable to obtain a house his furniture was removed to some out-buildings at his father’s residence, Bedford-road.
