Musical is a hit thanks to Peter
PETER WHELAN has produced yet another winner for the Rushden Court Estate Players. The cast turned in a thoroughly professional performance in "Right on the Beam" at the Methodist Hall last night. Peter is responsible for devising, writing and composing this musical comedy. He also stars in the leading role.
He plays the young assistant scientist who invents the "Happiness Machine." His machine has a remarkable effect on the most staid type of personmuch to the amusement of the audience, and the cast respond well to Peter's acting and singing.
His leading lady is attractive Jenny Burt, who takes the part of his long-suffering but loyal sweetheart. The two combine in perfect harmony on a number of songs, all written by Peter.
Lily Hartop and Peter Moisey feature prominently in the supporting ranks as the two aging romancers.
The title song is a catchy, little tune which illustrates Peter's ability as a pretty capable song writer.
The rest of the cast play their part in making this an entertaining amateur musical.
And the idea of a "happiness machine" is an admirable one. It's a great pity they can only be dreamed up in the theatrical world.
An almost capacity first night audience turned up. There is one more performance this evening.
