Mountain Rhapsody

Devised, composed, produced and wrote musical

A musical play, "Mountain Rhapsody", written, devised, composed and produced by Peter Whelan, leader of the Court Estate Players Rushden, came to the end of its three-day run on Saturday.

The play tells the story of a young pianist hoping for world recognition for his work, composed in the small Tyrolean village of Vorisburg. He is helped along on his path to fame and fortune by two girls who love him—Greta, the village hotel keeper's daughter (Bonita Osborne) and Lydia, a musical comedy star (Joan Vaughan).

Other parts were played by Peter Laughton (Graham), Donald Sanders (hotel keeper), Lily Hartop (Kathi Hatzel), Marion Bradshaw (Maria), Hazel White (Lilli), Peter Vaughan (Franz), David Marsh (Carl), Christopher Taylor (Otto) and Marion Bamford (Anna).

Scenery was designed and painted by one of the members of the company, Peter Hodgkins. The show was first produced by the company in 1958 and a number of the players took the parts which they had in the original show.

The show was performed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at St. Mary's Church Institute, Robinson Road, Rushden.
