"Serenade in Maytime", the latest production of Rushden Court Estate Concert Party, got off to a good start in the estate's church room on Tuesdayfor a four-day run.
It was written by 30-year-old Mr. Peter Whelan, who also wrote the music and directed the company.
Mr. Whelan takes the leading role of Renaldo, the Italian lover of Marguerite, played by Margaret Skinner.
Those in principal parts include: Vera Cleland, Peter Randall, Claude King, Jean Hunt, Christopher Taylor, Peter Hodgkins, Florence Line, Connie Holt, Norman King, Raymond King, Donald Sanders, Lily Hartop, Ernest Stock and Marian Bradshaw.
Mrs. Doreen Wilford, who also plays the piano accompaniments, and Mrs. Joan Hart assisted in the musical arrangements. The scenery and a portrait of Marguerite were painted by Peter Hodgkins; costumes were designed and made by concert party members. Brian Makeham is stage manager, assisted by Patrick Holt.
