Church Hall

Notes taken from the plan passed by the Council.
In 1945 the Rector of St Mary's Church, Rushden, sought permission to erect a Church Hall in Avenue Road. It was to be constructed using two ex-Army Nissen huts. It was to use 1½ huts according to the drawn plan, and the whole outer walls and roof was to painted in a subdued green clour. It was to be a temporary building used for five years after the end of European Hostilities.

The letter confirming the plans were approved:

10th May, 1945.

Dear Sir,

The Council last night approved of your proposal to erect a Church Fall (Nissen Hut) off Avenue Road, Court Estate, for St. Mary's Church, subject to the following conditions:-

as the Church Hall is to be constructed of short-lived materials, approval is limited in the first instance to a period not exceeding five years from the termination of hostilities in Europe, and the external elevations of the building and roof being painted and maintained in a subdued green colour.

Also, although not a condition of approval of the plan seeing that the purpose of the building is that of a Church Hall only, and not in addition a Hall for social and such like purposes, the Council wish to draw the attention of the Church Council to the desirability of providing lavatory accommodation.

Enclosed please find Form of Permission to Develop.

The Revd. E. A. Green. St. Mary's Rectory, RUSHDEN.

The Hall was later used as a community facility, and more especially by the Court Estate Players.
