Thomas Chettle the Elder

In The Name of God Amen I Thomas Chettle the Elder of Chelston otherwise Chelveston Cum Caldecot in the County of Northampton yeoman being in Health of Body and of a Sound disposeing Mind & Memory and understanding Thanks be to God for the same Do make and ordain This my Last Will and Testament In Manner and Form following That is to say First I Humbly Recommend my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God hopeing to be saved through the Merits Death and Passion of our Saviour Jesus Christ and my body I Yeild to the Earth to be decently Buryed at the discretion of My Executor hereinafter named And as for the worldly Estate Real Copyhold and personal Estate which God out of his Infinite and Supreme Goodness hath pleased to bless me with all I Give devise bequeath and dispose thereof as followeth that is to say First I Give and devise unto my son John his Heirs and Assigns for Ever All that my messuage tenement or Farmhouse wherein I now dwell situate and being in Chelston otherwise Chelveston Cum Caldecot in the said County of Northampton Together with the Barns Stables Granaries Maltings Houses Outhouses Buildings Yards Orchards Gardens Homestead and all other the App’s thereunto belonging And also my Copyhold Lands situate and being in Chelston otherwise Chelveston Cum Caldecot aforesaid or in any other parish or place Also I give and devise to my said Son John All that my Revision and Remainder Expectant upon the Determination of the Estate for life of Mary my present wife And of the Several Estates Sail or other Estates Limited by any Setlement or Setlements made by me previous to and upon my Marriage of my said wife Ans all other my Estate Title and Interest of in and to All and Singular my message Lands Tenements and Hereditiaments whatsoever and wheresoever Setled upon [my] said wife as aforesaid To have and To hold The said Reversion or Remainder of the said Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments and premises and Every of them and Every of their Appurt’s Setled upon my said wife as aforesaid Unto him my said son John his Heirs and Assigns for Ever Also I give and devise unto my said son John His Heirs and Assigns for Ever All my Singular other my Real and Copyhold Freehold Lands tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever To have and to hold the same unto my said Son John his Heirs and Assigns for Ever Also I give and bequeath unto my Son Thomas the sum of twenty pounds Also I Give and bequeath to each of my Daughters Mary Hannah Elizabeth and Sarah the sum of one shilling a piece Also I Give and bequeath to my Daughter Ann the sum of twenty five pounds Also I give and bequeath to my Daughter Martha the sum of twenty five pounds All which said Legacys I order Will direct and Appointment shall be paid by my Executor hereinafter named within Twelve months after my decease And all other my Goods Chattels Stock Effects Books Debts ready Money Securitys for money and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever After Payment of All my Just Debts and Funeral Expenses I Give and bequeath unto my said son John Whom I make Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revokeing all former and other Wills by me heretofore made declaring This to be my Last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have to this my Last Will and Testament Contained in Two Sheets of paper to the first whereof I have set my Hand and to the Last my Hand and Seal This Nineteenth day of March in the twentieth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Brittain France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth And in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Six
