I arrived at Chelveston airbase in June 1953, staying until the closure in 1964. We were all government employees, Civil Servants, [Ministry of Public Buildings and Works] all trades - Electricians, Fitters, Drivers, Boiler Men, and many more, working round the clock shifts 24 hours as this was known as the Cold War Period, State of Emergency.

At least four of the men on the photograph (above) are deceased, which leaves as me being the sole survivor I reckon, I don't bring to mind any one else being around now that was with us.

After the closure of the airfield I was posted to Molesworth but continued to go back to Chelveston to carry out various electrical repairs to the Base Housing and the Dependents School.
