Mr. W. Gross

Wellingborough News, 13th May 1882, transcribed by Kay Collins

ACCIDENT—On Thursday the 4th inst., Mr. W. Gross, of Caldecot, was engaged digging a drain near the end of one of his barns, when the end of the building fell, and buried Mr. Gross up to his shoulder. Had it had not been for the boy who was with him he no doubt would have been killed. The boy saw the barn falling, and called out "Master, the barn is falling," and Mr. Gross started to get out of the way, and thus escaped, although it was such a narrow escape that he was overtaken by the debris, and buried as stated. He was, however, speedily extricated, and medical aid procured. It was at first thought the injuries were of a very dangerous nature; he was bruised from head to foot, but fortunately no bones were broken, and although the injuries are serious, they are not thought not to be dangerous.
