CHEERS TO RETIREMENT - FREEWHEELING Rod Eady has cycled to and from work almost every day for the past 60 years, and on Friday he said goodbye to his workmates. But Rod (79) will not be hanging up his bicycle clips for some time. "I'll be 80 in a few weeks time and I can't see myself taking it easy yet. I haven't seen a doctor in 40 years because I've kept myself so fit", he said.

Rod, whose family is the oldest in Chelveston, retired from Saxby's tannery in Higham Ferrers where he had worked as a stockroom manager. He had been with the firm all his working life, joining it only a month after it was formed.
Directors Mark and Frank Saxby were among those who presented him with gifts and a cheque at the factory on Friday afternoon.
Rod, a married man, said that he now plans to work on his garden at his Sawyers Crescent, Chelveston, home.
