Civil Defence At Chelveston - Lack of Organisation Alleged

Is the Chairman of the Council aware of the lack of organisation among the Civil Defence Services and what steps does his Council propose to take to ensure the safety of the village?

This question was asked by the Women's Institute secretary at the annual parish meeting in Chelveston School on Monday, when Mr. J. C. Brittin presided.

In a long and keen discussion it was stated that the village's manual pump had not been used for a year or more, and that the people's respirators had not been tested. It was left with the Clerk (Mr. Arnold Corby) to obtain all the facts and report to the annual Parish Council meeting in mid-April.

There was comment too on the lack of heating in the school, and the Clerk was instructed to make representations to the school authorities.
