Hearth Tax Introduction

This Tax was levied from 1662 to 1689.

    The introduction below is written at the start of the Southern Division listings in 1670.

An accompt of every fire hearth & stove within every dwelling and other house and edifice within the severall townes villages and parishes in the severall hundreds of Clely, Fawsly, Guilsborow, Norton Davy alias Greens Norton, Nobottle Grove, Spelhoe, Kings Sutton, Towcester, Warden & Wymersley being the West division of the Com. of Northton And which are chargeable by a certaine Act of Parliament intituled An act for establishing an additionall Revenue upon his Majestie his heires & successors for the better support of his and their Crowne & dignity Which accompt was delivered in by the hands of the severall & respective constables & other officers of the severall Townes villages & parishes within the severall hundreds aforesaid unto the Justices of peace of the County aforesaid At the severall Sessions of the peace holden at the castle of Northton for the county of Northton on Tuesday the thirtieth day of September in the fourteenth year of the Raigne of our soveraigne Lord Charles the second by the grace of God of England Scotland France & Ireland King Defender of the fayth &c and inrolled by Mr Thomas Gorstelowe clarke of the peace of the said county.
