Jubilee Day 1935

Chelveston Blues £16 - Over £16 was raised in Chelveston by public subscription for Jubilee Day.

All the schoolchildren paraded at the school in the morning for the hoisting of the flags and to receive their Jubilee medals, which were presented by the School Managers. The Rev. E. G. P. M. Kingdom conducted a united service at the parish Church in the afternoon, and £1 13s. 3d. was collected for the King George Jubilee Trust.

The Chapel schoolroom was the scene of a children’s tea arranged by a committee of ladies under Mrs. E. Lack, who also arranged the adult meat tea held at the Institute. Sports followed in Mr. Tilley’s field under the supervision of Mr. E. Parker and his committee, and with Mr. B. Page as the judge. Mr. and Miss Newman, of Irthlingborough, played for a dance held at 8 o’clock in the Institute which was crowded. The day ended with fireworks, a bonfire lighted by the Tryst on Mr. Lack’s field, and community singing.

Winners of prizes for the best decorated houses were: 1 Mrs. R. Hudson, 2 Mrs. W. Bird, and Mrs A.  .......[rest of article missing]
